Web design case study
Samatha Australia: a home online for Malayalees in Australia.
Samatha Australia is a volunteer-led community for Malayalees in Australia, founded in 2024. I designed and built its website, samatha.com.au: one calm page that says what the community stands for, how it brings people together and how to join, on desktop and phone.

The challenge
A young community needs a website that does three things: say clearly what it stands for, show that it is active, and make it easy to get involved. Samatha's values, peace, equality and the cultural preservation of Kerala, are easy to state and easy to lose on a busy page. The site also had to introduce a mark drawn from the visual culture of Aboriginal Australia, with the respect that deserves, and point people to Keraleeyam 2026, the community's biggest event.

Three ways the community brings people together, each with tags: workshops, festivals and service projects.
Explain the mark
A short card on what the logo means: the circle, the dove and the flower.

Design decisions
The motto as the headline
Together for equality, together for peace, set large in Bricolage Grotesque, with the two key words in a warm red to orange.
Mission in plain words
What the name means, then the commitment: unity across caste, creed, sex and religion, closed with the motto in italics.
Three ways, with tags
Volunteer-led events, festival celebrations and service projects, numbered 01 to 03, each with tags such as Onam, Vishu, Christmas, Eid and Kerala Piravi.
The meaning of the mark
The founding story, with a card that reads the logo: the circle for unity, the dove for peace, the flower for growth.
Events that link out
Upcoming events as date cards. Keraleeyam 2026 links straight to its own website.
Contact you can act on
Email, phone and address in three cards, then a dark closing band that repeats the motto and the Get involved button.
